Carol Sadler Obituary

On Sunday, May 6, 2018, Carol J. (McEldowney) Sadler, age 95, passed away peacefully at home.  She was born on December 24, 1922 in Berlin Center, OH to Ross and Ethel M. (Burkey) McEldowney.

Carol is survived by her beloved children, Dave (Cyndi Janson) Slider of Hanoverton, Cheryl (Slider) Murdoch of Lisbon, Tami Sadler (Steve) Mix of Kensington; grandchildren, Brent (Megan) Slider of Salem, Shavonne Slider (Shane) Seddon of Salem; four great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, fourteen step-great-grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren and her sister, Elizabeth Goodman of Lisbon.

Besides her parents Carol was preceded in death by her daughter, Kaye Slider; siblings, Glen “Mac” McEldowney, Doris Reichart and Joyce Wilson.

Carol graduated from Deerfield High School in 1941 and Alliance Business College in 1942.  During her formative years she worked at the Ravenna Arsenal, at Taylor Craft Aviation as a riveter and for the Army Corp of Engineers at Berlin Dam and Mosquito Creek as a secretary.  Carol began a career with the Postal Service in 1955 as a substitute mail carrier in Deerfield.  At the same time, she became the first woman school bus driver for South East School District and delivered a Salem news route for 10 years.  In 1983 she became a full-time mail carrier and transferred to Hanoverton.  While Carol worked outside her home for all these years she also ran and maintained her own mini dairy and beef farm at home.  She finally retired from the US Postal Service in 1992 after thirty-two years of service.

With only the farm to worry about Carol’s started her next adventure.  She and her sister, Joyce, decided to travel the entire United States in their 37’ motorhome.  Their reputation followed them, and they were fondly known as “Thelma & Louise.”  While not all the tales of their travel will ever be known, it’s a safe bet they are united and on the road to another great adventure!  Carol and Joyce will not be traveling alone as Carol’s grand pup, Daizee Mix, chose the same hour to leave us and make the trip with her grandma through the screen door of that motor home in the sky!

A Memorial Service will be held on May 19, 2018 at 1:00 PM in the New Lisbon Masonic Center, 36192 SR 172, Lisbon, OH 44432.
