On Monday, December 24, 2018, Darlene James, loving wife for 33 years, grandmother, sister, and mother of two children, passed away at the age of 59.
Darlene was born on March 30, 1959 in Youngstown, OH to Melvin and Beatrice (Zarlengo) Green. She graduated from Liberty High School, and in September of 1978, Darlene married her husband Gary. Together they raised two children, Ryan and Autumn.
Darlene had a passion for creative arts that included floral arrangements, gift basket designing, sewing, quilting and paper crafts and shared that love through donations to the Children’s Hospital. She enjoyed being by the water and spent every summer at the beach. Her greatest love was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a memory maker and focused on time and activities with family.
She ended her 11 year career as an Instructional Aide at Girard City Schools. Thank you to the Girard City school staff and faculty for all your support and donations of days so that her time could be spent at home.
Loved ones that cleared the path for Darlene are her mother and father, Melvin and Bea Green. Loved ones that will miss Darlene until they meet again are her former husband, Gary James, Jr.; her uncle, Paul Zarlengo; her older sister, Joyce (Jeff) Dripps; her brothers, Robert Green, and James (Julie) Green; her son, Ryan (Denise) James; her daughter, Autumn (John) Yocum; and her grandchildren, Ethan and Evan. She will also be missed by her extended family that includes many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who supported her without fail.
A Memorial Service for friends and family will be held at 6 PM on January 10, 2018 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 343 Via Mount Carmel, Youngstown, OH 44505 with a Celebration of Her Life to follow.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Hospice of the Valley Hospice House for the compassionate care shown to Darlene.
