Dawna Rae McCartney

On June 24, 2018, Dawna Rae McCartney, age 54, passed into God's care in St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.  She was born in Salem, OH on May 30, 1964 to Rowena "Ro" (Winters) and the late Donald McCartney.

Besides her beloved mother, Ro, Dawna is survived by her sister, Ginny (Roger) Simpson of North Jackson, OH; nieces, Caryn (Michael) Christy of Youngstown, Holly (Andrew) Torres of Little Elm, TX; nephew, Roger Simpson III of North Jackson; great nephew, Easton; great-nieces, Lorelei, Sophie and Kaylie.

Dawna grew up in Austintown and was a 1982 graduate of Fitch High School.  She went on to earn her nursing degree from the University of Nevada Las Vegas then work for the State of Nevada in nursing.  Dawna was of strong mind and spirit with a positive outlook on life through her 20 year illness.   As Dawna's illness progressed she moved back to Austintown to be close to family and her mother came home from CA.   People often said they would go to visit Dawna hoping to lift her spirits but found that it was in fact Dawna who inspired and lifted her guests.

Family to receive friends August 11, 2018, 2PM-4PM at Smith's Corners United Methodist Church.
