At home on Friday, February 22, 2019, John Richard Banjo, age 74, passed away peacefully. He was born in Youngstown, OH on April 5, 1944 to John J and Ann (Greko) Banjo.
Richard is survived by his sisters, Jeannie (Augustine) DiRusso of Sun City Center, FL, Mary (George) Kuzman of Lansdale, PA; children, Daniel (Rosalind) Yount of Austintown; grandchildren, Kirk Miller of Austintown, Danielle Yount of Austintown, Kayla Miller of Youngstown; great-grandson, Everett Miller; sister-in-law, Diane (Keith) Bowser of Champion Twp., nieces and nephews, Patrick (Franny) DiRusso, Georgine (Ron) Steen, Mary Kay (Robert) Sanetick, Laura Bowser, Keith (Kristy) Bowser, Kevin (Jeanine) Bowser; great-nieces and nephews, Hailey, Elise, Dominic, Jeremy and his best friend, Rich Fadell.
Besides his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Ann (Kusic) Banjo.
John was a 1962 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and attended Youngstown State University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in 1968. He honorably serve in the United States Army as radio operator during the Vietnam War and later served in the Ohio National Guard with the Military Police. He was deployed to Saudi Arabia and Kuwait during Operation Desert Storm in 1991 and activated for duty with the Military Police in Germany, Alaska, Michigan, Wisconsin, NJ, Ohio, NY, Kentucky and Indiana. After sixteen years, John retired from Youngstown Steel Door in 2004. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish - Austintown and a frequent visitor to Charlie's Restaurant on Kirk Rd. John was loved and will be missed by all he knew.
Military Honors will be given at 10:30 AM followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at St Joseph Parish, 4545 New Rd., Austintown, OH 44515.
