Mary Ann Dennis Obituary

On Wednesday, October 31, 2018, Mary Ann Dennis, age 77, passed peacefully and no longer must endure and suffer the effects of ALS.  She was born in Youngstown, OH on October 21, 1941 to Lawrence Leach and Ann (Markusic) Leach DeNucci.  She was raised by her mom and loving step-father, Patrick DeNucci.  May she now be at peace in heaven with them.

Mary Ann is survived by her beloved husband of thirty-six years, Robert Dennis; their spoiled twelve-year-old dog, Lady; children, Debra Hood, Larry (the late Janice) Hood, Joseph (Jody) Hood, Leane (Ronald) Gaskins, Ray (Carla) Hood, Michelle (Joe) Fields; grandchildren, Lauren Kocsis, Michael Hood, Kristen and Kasey Hood, Raymond Jr. and Jade Hood, Alec and Aaron Gaskins, Jack and Max Fields; great-grandchildren, Atlas Kocsis.

Mary Ann was an energetic and outgoing individual with a vibrant personality. She lit up any room she entered.  She loved to talk and could carry on a conversation with anyone and never hesitated to help her many friends and those she loved.

A long-time resident of Austintown, OH, Mary Ann graduated from Fitch High School in 1959.  When she was younger, she loved to roller skate and jitterbug, she even got her kids hooked on it.   Her family has many great memories with her including swimming at Wildwood Lake, going to church and outings with family friends, weekend visits to Ponderosa Park in their camper, driving the golf cart and just plain old food, fun and family.  Especially memorable was the year they drove to Florida in the “semi” with three kids.  She actually drove the rig a bit.

Mary Ann also enjoyed country music, Elvis Presley, spending time with family, shopping, trips to ANY casino, loving and caring for her many dogs and cats over the years.  She always looked forward to planning holidays and family gatherings and made sure they were never boring, filling them with games and laughter.

On her bucket list was a trip to the Grand Ole Opry with her children.  What a wonderful vacation!  First stop, gambling at the Horseshoe Casino which resembled the Bates Hotel from the Shining.  All the crazy pictures that were taken still make the family smile.  The Grand Ole Opry Show featured Lori Morgan.  Staying at the hotel with such glorious sights, sounds and the spectacular soothing, rainforest atmosphere was delightful for Mary Ann.  She even got to see and get her picture taken with a great Elvis impersonator, which brought tears to her eyes. Such wonderful memories to treasure always.

Mary Ann had a number of jobs over the years.  They varied from a Kroger Price Patrol Lady, her feature role in a bank commercial, a retail merchandising for General Mills and Lerin/Leggs, an apartment property manager for Carriage Hill and GMS Management, to a sales & customer service agent for Verizon from where she retired in 2017.

Upon her request, a private family gathering will be observed.  The family would like to thank Mercy Health Palliative Care, Hospice of the Valley and The ALS Association for all their support during these past difficult months.

Memorial donations in Mary Ann’s honor should be made to the ALS Association Northern Chapter, 6155 Rockside Rd # 403, Independence, OH 44131 Or Hospice of Valley 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, OH 44514.
