It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alexis Roman Sr., 51, of Youngstown, Ohio, who passed away peacefully in his home the morning of April 9, 2025.
Born October 10, 1973, in Trenton NJ, Alexis was the beloved son of Rafael Roman Quiñones and Elsa G. Torres, both of Puerto Rico.
Alexis left Trenton in 1999 to settle in Ohio, where he worked for 14 years at Dorchester Village Apartments in Cleveland as a dedicated and skilled maintenance technician. He later made his home in Youngstown, where he spent the remainder of his life. Despite the distance, Al never lost his deep love for Trenton, frequently traveling back and forth to visit friends and family. He loved his hometown so much, he even had it tattooed on him.
Alexis was a man devoted to his children and cherished every moment with them—whether on trips to the park, store runs, or just spending time together. He was a loving, hands-on father who found joy in simply being with his sons.
Al had a passion for boxing, faithfully following championship fighters such as Félix Trinidad, Miguel Cotto, and Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. His enthusiasm for the sport was infectious and brought him great joy.
Those who knew him will always remember his quick wit, contagious laughter, and gift for making people laugh until they cried. Alexis had a heart as big as his smile—always ready to lend a helping hand, a true friend who treated everyone like family. His compassion and warmth were a reflection of his faith and the love of God that lived within him.
Alexis is survived by his beloved children: Alexis Roman-Cruz Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, and Alan Roman of Youngstown, OH; his mother Elsa G. Torres of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico; his father Rafael Roman Quiñones of Puerto Rico; sisters Yolanda Rivera of Barranquitas, PR; Elizabeth Rivera of Salem, MA; Kathy Rivera-Mateo (Ariel) of Worcester, MA; and brother Rafael Roman Jr. of Paterson, NJ. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry his memory with love and pride.
He was preceded in death by his beloved stepfather, Wilfredo Rivera Aponte.
Rest in peace, Al. You are forever loved, and your memory will live on in our hearts.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
