Arthur James Thomas

On Sunday, April 12, 2026, Arthur James Thomas, age 84, of Newton Falls, OH, passed away at Mercy Health - St. Joseph Warren Hospital. He was born on September 7, 1941, in Warren, OH, to William and Ruth (Fisher) Thomas.  

Throughout his life, Arthur worked diligently in various roles at Rockwell Standard, Copperweld Steel, Grinnell Corporation, the Newton Township Road Department, and Trumbull County Children Services. His dedication to his work was matched only by his love for his family and the joy he found in sharing his knowledge with them.  

Arthur enjoyed a variety of hobbies that reflected his love for the outdoors and family life. He spent countless hours fishing and hunting and took great pride in gardening and cooking. Above all else, he treasured teaching his family valuable life skills that will continue to be passed down through generations.  

Arthur is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn (Frantz) Thomas; his daughters, Bethany (Gregory) Posey of Newton Falls and Yvonne (Anthony) Shutt of Akron; his cherished grandchildren, Travis (Abigail) Wright of Newton Falls, Jeremy Wright of Akron, Alethia (Brett) Robison of Macedonia, Garrett (Ashley Moss) Posey of Newton Falls, Chloe Shutt, Gracie Shutt of North Carolina; proud great-grandfather to Aiden, Izzy, Willow, Raelynn, Ava, Malcolm, Dutton, Zoe, and Vallarie; brother, Richard (Nancy) Thomas of Newton Falls and sister-in-law, Janice Thomas.

Besides his parents, Arthur was also preceded is death by his brother, John E. Thomas.

Arthur’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.

A celebration of life service will be held in the future.
