Betty Jane (Beringer) Porterfield

Betty Jane Porterfield, 97, died peacefully on February 9, 2025 at Antonine Village in North Jackson, Ohio. She was born on April 21, 1927, in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of John and Geraldine (Roszman)Beringer.

She met the love of her life, William Porterfield when they both worked in the offices of Truscon Steel. They were married on June 25, 1949 in Youngstown. Shortly thereafter they moved to Albany, NY, and spent the next 15 years there raising their four children before returning to Canfield. Betty was an accomplished seamstress, an artistic crafter, and was very talented in the art of embroidery. Her exceptional needlework won many awards. She loved to play bridge, read, and listen to music of all genres, from the 50’s to the 90’s. She also enjoyed watching baseball and golf with her husband. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Betty leaves to cherish her memory her children Linda Friday of Cornelius, NC, Barbara (Chris) Noll of Canfield, OH, Thomas (Jeanie) of Ronkonkoma, NY, and William (Lisa) of Berlin Center, OH; seven grandchildren, Elaine Noll, David Noll, Kim (Friday) Telep, Lauren (Friday) Call, John Porterfield, and Travis and Kyle Porterfield; eight great-grandchildren, Adam, Brooks, Chase, Caroline, Sylvia, Graham, Wade and Jude.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, in 2010, and her sister, Mariellen Groat.

There will be no visitation. There will be a private family celebration of Betty’s life at a later date.
