Carl "Coop" Arthur Cooper

It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of beloved husband, father, and all-around good guy Carl "Coop" Cooper, age 76, who passed away peacefully at Hospice House of the Valley on May 31, 2026. Born in 1950 in Warren, Ohio, to the late Grace Hillman and Cecil A. Cooper, Carl was a lifelong resident of Trumbull and Mahoning counties, having recently moved with his wife of over 30 years, Beverly Cooper, to "easy condo living" in Poland, Ohio.

After graduating from Western Reserve High School in 1968, Carl worked at May's Towing before enlisting in the US Navy, serving from 1970 to 1974.

He went on to earn the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Carl proudly served on the flight deck catapult room of the Ticonderoga aircraft carrier stationed out of San Diego, California. It was during this time that he had the honor of being part of the Pacific Ocean retrieval operation of Apollo 16 and Apollo 17, the last of the lunar moon missions. It was one of Carl’s proudest and fondest memories.

Upon returning to the valley, he worked 42 years at GM Lordstown, starting as an assembler at the much-loved van plant, retiring in 2016 as a paint specialist in the Chevy Cruz paint department.

A member of UAW Local 1112, Carl held numerous leadership roles in the union. He was a passionate Democrat and loyal union brother; he was also a team member on the Bogey Brothers golf league.

In addition to being hard-working his entire life, Carl had a creative side. He loved building and fixing almost anything, writing, woodworking, and had a special passion for photography.

Carl loved the great outdoors, whether he was mowing the grass, gardening, or hiking in the woods, and especially loved any and all beaches.

With a green "Genny" can in hand, most Sundays were spent watching his beloved Cleveland Browns,  NASCAR, or golf. If sports weren’t on,  old westerns were.

Carl will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Beverly (Haynes) Cooper, whom he married in 1996;  daughter, Carla (Dan) Seaton of Anacortes, WA;, along with grandchildren, Austin and Aster of Washington; sons Dane (Lori Smith) Cooper of Dayton, OH and Dr. Clayton Cooper of Oxford, OH; brother Jim (Edie) Daugherty of Warren, OH and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Carl is preceded in death by his brother Jack Daugherty, brother Bob Daugherty, and Cooper siblings Grace Curtis, Leon, Hazel, Doris, Dale, Marjory, Jean, and Gary.

The family extends their heartfelt and deep gratitude to all who offered care, support, and compassion during this difficult time. Per Carl’s wishes, no services will be held.
