On Saturday, October 12, 2024, we lost a beautiful and compassionate soul. Cathy Ann Kostelic at the age of sixty-seven passed away at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all that knew her. Born on November 18, 1956, in Belleville, Illinois, she was a beloved daughter to Clarence and Carol Prather.
Her life was filled with love, and she gave that love to everyone around her, family, friends and even strangers who were touched by her kindness. Cathy was a loving mother and a devoted grandmother, her children Jimmy (Rachael), Molly (Mario), and Patti were the lights of her life. She cherished every moment with them, guiding and supporting them with her unshakable love. As her children grew, Cathy’s heart expanded even further with the arrival of her beloved grandchildren: Gavin (Brooke), Peyton, Riley, Emily (Lyndsay), Mackenzie, Madalyn, and Samantha. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, her love for them was endless and her love for them will remain with them always. Family was everything to Cathy, and her love extended beyond her children and grandchildren.
She was a devoted sister to Vickie, Jane, and Missy, standing by their sides through all of life’s ups and downs. The bond she shared with her siblings was a testament to her deep sense of family and extended to her nieces and nephews. Though she faced the pain of losing her father Clarence and her siblings Mike and Chrissy, Cathy carried their memories in her heart. We know they now embrace once more.
Her life, though it feels far too short, was full of meaning. Cathy showed us how to live with an open heart, to love deeply and care for one another. We are heartbroken by her loss, and we take comfort in the memories and lessons she leaves behind.
