On Saturday, December 27, 2025, Daniel Sallmen passed away peacefully at the Sergeant Joseph George Kusick Community Living Center in Butler, PA. He was born January 7, 1935, in New Castle, PA, to Paul David and Ruth (Strong) Sallmen.
Daniel was a graduate of New Castle High School. After graduation, he proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Navy as a Seaman aboard the USS San Pablo. Following his military service, he was employed by Rockwell International.
He married the former Sara Ellen Johnson on September 2, 1954.
Daniel is survived by his children: Debbie (Bob) Feil, Daniel (Zoe) Sallmen Jr., Diane (Albert) Lewis, and Douglas (SueAnn) Sallmen; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and sisters Tia Straker of Tucson, AZ, and Carol Jo Gibson of New Castle, PA.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Ruth Campbell, Mary Jane Barton, Martha Haza, and Helen Mae Haza; and brothers Paul Sallmen, William Sallmen, James Sallmen, John Sallmen, and Fred Sallmen.
Daniel enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also found joy tinkering in his shed and babysitting his grandchildren.
In accordance with Daniel’s wishes, there will be no services.
