On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, David Harry Mayhew, age 74, of Youngstown, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 29, 1950, to his loving parents, George C. and Ann M. (Anthony) Mayhew.
David graduated from Westlake High School in 1968, where his favorite memories were singing in the choir and playing the clarinet in the marching band. He went on to attend Ohio University to study Music and play hockey. Making Youngstown his home, David continued to follow his passion for music and hockey. An avid bird watcher, animal lover, gardener and nature lover, David was truly an “old soul” who loved nothing more than to make people laugh. He retired from General Motors after 34 years of service.
David leaves behind his wife, Julie Mayhew; children, Kelly Tobias, David (Alexandra) Mayhew, Rachel Mayhew, Kristen (Carson) Colley; his beautiful grandchildren, Maddie, Tori, Marlo; siblings, George Mayhew, Barbara (Michael) Flanagan, Mark Mayhew, as well as extended family and friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
As a lover of all genres of music, it feels fitting to end with a lyric from one of his favorite artists, Bob Dylan. "When your rooster crows at the break of dawn. Look out your window and I’ll be gone. You’re the reason I’m a-traveling on, but don’t think twice, it’s all right."
In lieu of a funeral, please take a moment to spend time in nature in honor of David’s memory.
A Celebration of Life will be announced in the future. Please check back for updates.
