David Rach Sr. Obituary

David A. Rach Sr. passed away May 17, 2025, at the age of 59, after a courageous battle with addiction. Born on Independence Day, 1965, in Washington, D.C., David A. Rach Sr. was adopted shortly after birth by, Casper and Frances Rach, immigrants who eventually settled in Canfield, Ohio.

David was a proud 1983 graduate of Canfield High School and later earned a degree from Parkland Community College in Champaign, Illinois.

Two themes defined Dave’s life: a deep affection for helping and learning from others, and a bold defiance of the status quo. He cherished his country and was captivated by the stories of those who shaped and defended it. An avid reader, Dave immersed himself in books about war heroes like Patton and Custer, Wild West legends like Crazy Horse and Wild Bill Hickok, and visionaries such as Evel Knievel, Bill Wilson, and Lee Iacocca.

Dave was drawn to the rugged freedom and breathtaking beauty of the American West, often traveling by motorcycle to places like Yellowstone, the Black Hills, and Jackson Hole, the latter of which he described as spiritually calling to him. These journeys were indicative of his free and restless spirit, always seeking new horizons and the open road.

Professionally, Dave was a man of many talents. He excelled as a jeweler, excavator, NASCAR pit crew member, steel worker, EMT, firefighter, and, most recently, as the owner of Canfield Towing.

Dave's commitment to serving others extended to his community, where he also made a lasting impact as a dedicated youth football coach and successful AA sponsor for many who shared the disease. Though settling down was not in his nature, Dave had a remarkable ability to quickly become proficient in just about anything his wandering mind pursued.

Above all, Dave was a devoted father to his three sons, David Jr., Ryan, and Tyler. Despite his own personal struggles, he never wavered in giving his boys the invaluable gifts of time, affection, and an unrelenting belief in their potential. He eagerly supported their endeavors, offering both constructive criticism and boundless encouragement.

Dave is survived by his former-spouse, Brenda (Troy Watson); sons, Ryan Rach, Tyler Rach, David (Julia) Rach Jr.; siblings, Jim (Korine) Rach, Susan (Larry) Guillard all of Canfield; and his four beloved grandchildren, Charlee (13), David James (7), Chance (5), and Geneva (4). He will be deeply missed by his family, who regarded him as a larger-than-life figure who sacrificed and gave so much throughout his life in an effort to better theirs. We love you, Dad.

Besides his parents, Dave was also preceded in death by his former in-laws, Art and Charlotte Hough.

The Rach family will receive friends from 9:00 AM-NOON on Saturday, May 31, 2025. at the Green Township Community Building, 12184 Lisbon Rd, Salem, OH 44460. Please note that this event will be informal, consistent with what Dave would want.
