Dolores Jean (Gamble) Helman, age 86, went to be with the Lord on January 23, 2025, in the comfort of her daughter's home. Dolores is preceded in death by her husband Richard, siblings Kenneth Jr, James and William Gamble, and grandson Matthew. Dolores leaves to cherish her memory: her sons, Michael (Kim), Paul, Derek (Sandy) Helman, and her daughter Faith (Todd) Vrancken; her siblings, Gerald (Jane) and Robert (Jaunita) Gamble, Betty (Albert) Pittman and Debbie (Dave) Scyoc; her eight grandchildren, Brandis, Danielle (Zack), Paula, Alexa, Cassidy, Austin (Hannah), Mallory (Kelly), and Samantha; and her great-grandchildren, Talia, Alleah, Ryan, Christian, Luke, Davione, Addie, Oliver, Joelle, and Lennon. She was born to Kenneth Sr. and Edna Gamble in Blacklick, Pennsylvania. She later moved to Columbiana, Ohio, where she met her husband of 63 years, Richard Helman, and raised their family.
Dolores was a devout Christian and follower of Jesus. She was involved in Columbiana Church of the Nazarene, where she served as a Board Member and Treasurer for many years. Dolores enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She served on the Mission's Council and Hospitality Committee and was a delegate to the District Assembly and Missions Convention. She also volunteered at the Sophia Women's Center, a crisis pregnancy center that helped mothers, and The Way Station, a non profit providing food and resources to those in need. Dolores enjoyed spending time with her family, going on vacation, and traveling across the country in their motorhome, where they enjoyed sightseeing, laughing, and memory-making along the way. As her children grew up to have families of their own, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren as often as she could.
In her free time, she enjoyed reading good books, completing puzzles, crocheting, and cross-stitching. She would often donate her hand-made items to babies in the local hospital. She was a very kind, loving, and compassionate woman to all she encountered. She never hesitated to help someone in need. Her children remember their home consistently being filled with neighborhood children who needed a hot meal, clean clothes, or just loving company. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to close friends and children in her community.
Please join us for a celebration of life on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Church of the Nazarene Columbiana, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Dolores' honor to (The Way Station/Church of the Nazarene…).
"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me."
"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
Matthew 25:35-40
