Donna L. (Kaufman) Johnston

After a short battle with cancer, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, Donna L. Johnston, age 65, of New Castle, PA, passed away at home peacefully with her daughter Brenda Ryhal, and caregiver/sister-in-law, Deb Dunkerley. She was born in New Castle, PA on Oct. 22, 1959, to Donald C. and Minnie M. (George) Kaufman.

Donna is survived by her daughter, Brenda Ryhal, sons, Sodapop "JJ" Whipkey, Floyd Kaufman; grandchildren, Hailey Ryhal, Malachi Ryhal, Charlynn Todd, Lacey Johns, and Timothy Rice; great-grandchildren, Amarie Ryhal, Rose Todd, and Alek Todd; siblings, Donald (Donna) Kaufman, Charles Kaufman, and Brenda (Tom) Renfro; as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, and last but not least, her cats, Jazzy and Zippy, whom she loved.

Besides her parents, Donna was also preceded in death by her son, Norman Johnston; sisters, Isabella Kaufman and Loretta Bartberger; and her favorite cat, Baby.

A devoted fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Donna cheered passionately for her team. She also had a deep appreciation for music, especially country legends Alan Jackson and Brenda Lee. Her favorite television show was Judge Judy, which she watched faithfully, and she enjoyed suspense and horror movies that kept her on the edge of her seat.

In quieter moments, Donna could often be found working through word search puzzles, playing cards, and planting flowers. These simple pleasures reflected her thoughtful nature and love of spending time with family.
