Dorinda Lee Perkins June 20, 1954 – October 30, 2020
Dorinda “Dee Dee” Perkins was born on June 20, 1954, the oldest child of John Raymond Seese of Wellsville, Ohio and Nettie (Davis) Seese, of Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. Dee Dee was the type of person people were glad to see. She brought a graceful smile and warmth to every room she ever entered.
Dee Dee had a highly inquisitive nature and was an avid reader. A graduate of the South Range High School class of 1972, Dee Dee worked in several positions, eventually co-founding Perkins Communications and also “PTV”, a local cable TV Public Access channel, from which she retired. In her retirement Dee Dee greatly enjoyed her family life and was actively engaged in many public service initiatives, including being a sponsor of the Applied Research Institute at Ball State University.
She was the devoted mother of four children: Crystal Seese Odum, Aaron Joseph Perkins, John Frederick Perkins and David Thomas Perkins. She set for them an example of being kind to others, and stressed the need to actively search for ways we can ease the burden that other people carry.
Family meant everything to Dee Dee. Having suffered the loss of her youngest child David Perkins, Dee Dee was steadfast in her efforts to serve others. She never mentioned her contributions, choosing instead to provide material and personal gifts on behalf of the “least of these”. She was a strong advocate and follower of the “Golden Rule” and of all teachings that stress helping others.
On October 30th of 2020, Dee Dee passed away while sleeping peacefully in her home. She was released from much discomfort, having endured a struggle against cancer.
Those that will carry on her goodwill and her memory are husband Joseph E. Perkins; children Crystal Seese Odum (and former spouse Ed Odum), Aaron Perkins and spouse Maria M. Miranda, John Perkins and spouse Rickie Lee Holloway; her five sisters (“The Sisters”) Debbie Bianchi, Dianne Smith, Darlene Sosbe, Denise Bortmas and Dolores Seese; grandchildren Jaida Nicole Odum, Aaron David Perkins and Fiona Rae Perkins; along with scores of family members and loved ones.
