On Monday, June 2, 2025, Frances Pearl Crawl, age 81, of Youngstown, OH, passed away at Mercy Health-Youngstown. She was born December 15, 1943, in Cleveland, OH, to James and Iretha (Hill) McCarroll.
Frances lived a life rich with love, tradition, and joy. She was a devoted mother to her children—Bryan Crawl, Kimberly Crawl, Nichelle Crawl and Syreeta Crawl—and created a home that was both nurturing and vibrant. Her home was always filled with the sounds of jazz, rock, and R&B music. She shared her love of live performances with her children by taking them to see The Jackson Five and Chicago in concert. She also introduced them to the magic of the Ice Capades and the Ringling Brothers Circus during their younger years.
Sundays were Frances’s special day in the kitchen where she prepared elaborate three-course meals and hearty breakfasts that brought everyone together. Her kitchen was her sanctuary—off-limits to little hands while she worked her culinary magic. Among her many specialties, her apple pie stood out as legendary—not only for its flavor but because she made the crust from scratch with care and precision.
Frances had a deep appreciation for classic musicals featuring Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, and Gene Kelly. She also enjoyed a good comedy now and then and never turned down an opportunity to indulge in junk food or watch one of her beloved “Judge” shows.
She is survived by her children Bryan Crawl, Kimberly Crawl, and Syreeta Crawl; her sister Grace Irvine; her brother Warren Cox; twelve grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Nichelle, and two grandchildren.
Her legacy lives on through the traditions she instilled and the memories she created with those who loved her. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 319 Struthers-Liberty Rd, Campbell, OH 44405.
