It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Gabrielle "Gabby" L. Shives, age 45, of Austintown, Ohio, on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Mercy Health.
She was born on June 4, 1979 in Youngstown, Ohio to Lawrence and Patricia (Chockey) Shives. She attended BCC Grade School, Canfield Middle School and graduated from Canfield High School.
Gabrielle's professional background includes positions at New Day Recovery, Fonderlac Country Club, The Youngstown Club, Salem Hospital, Chemical Bank, and Talmer Bank. She earned a Bachelor of Social Work from Youngstown State University, graduating with Highest Honors in December 2023 and earned an Associate degree in Computer Networking Systems in 2008.
Among her many interests were collecting Batman memorabilia and acquiring the latest Nike Air Max shoes in every color. She was also a graduate student studying social work, assisting clients in their recovery, relaxing at home with her beloved cat, Gia, and generously helping others in need. Her kindness and compassion were always evident, and she lit up every room she walked into. Gabrielle was adept at problem-solving for anyone, whether a stranger or a loved one. Even after long workdays, her boundless kindness extended to serving as counselor, wife, and mother at home.
Gabrielle is survived by her wife, Stacey Pitts of Austintown, her children, Kirsten and Leonard “LJ” Pitts of Austintown, her cat Gia, her mother Patricia Shives of Struthers, her in-laws Patrick and Nancy Klingensmith, and her siblings Andrea (Raymond) Felleti of Struthers, Linda (Todd) Mitchell of Las Vegas, Nevada, Cheryl Shives of Austintown, Bruno Mezzatesta of Austintown, and Christopher Shives of Austintown. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews from Struthers, Ohio, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Phoenix, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Shives.
Following Gabrielle's passing, her family made the compassionate decision to donate her organs to those in need, enabling recipients to experience a life free from suffering and filled with joy, a possibility that might not have otherwise existed. This generous gift includes her lungs, kidneys, liver, pancreas, and blood, offering many others a renewed chance at life and extending Gabrielle's legacy of kindness and generosity.
Her family, would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who has offered support during this unexpectedly, and unimaginably challenging time. This includes friends and family near and far, Gabrielle's New Day Recovery colleagues, the St. Elizabeth Youngstown ICU team, Lifebanc, and many others.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held for family and friends from 4:00-7:00 pm on February 8, 2025, at the Clubhouse at Herons Landing, 6000 Herons Lane, Austintown 44515.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association in honor of February's Heart Health Month to support the fight against heart disease in women.
