Gerald “Jerry” L. Heinbaugh, age 77, passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in Youngstown, Ohio.
He was born in Somerset, Pennsylvania, to Donald and Marilyn (Trimpey) Heinbaugh. Jerry proudly served in the United States military and later built a meaningful career as the Director of the Forensic Psychiatric Center of Northeast Ohio.
Throughout his life, he was known for his love of the outdoors and the joy he found in spending time with family. He enjoyed boating, fishing, skiing, gardening, golfing, mountain biking, and many other outdoor activities. One of his favorite places was the family cabin in West Virginia, where generations of family gathered to create lasting memories together. Above all else, Gerald was the heart of his family. He shared a loving 58-year marriage with his wife, Joann Heinbaugh, building a life centered on family, laughter, and unwavering devotion.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife, Joann Heinbaugh; his son, Jim (Candace) Heinbaugh; his beloved grandchildren, Sydney and Garrett Heinbaugh; his siblings, Ron Heinbaugh, Lisa (Mark) Lamb, and Susan Anglin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Heinbaugh.
Jerry will be remembered for his humor and the way he could always make those around him laugh. Even in his final moments, he continued to tell jokes and bring smiles to the people he loved.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Greenford Christian in Austintown, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
