Gerald "Jerry" George Blackann

Jerry Blackann passed away July 8, 2024, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was born September 14, 1959, the son of the late Dr. Herbert Jr. and Betty (Patterson) Blackann in Youngstown, Ohio. He lived most of his life in Austintown, OH, and moved to Mineral Ridge two years ago. He was a graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, class of 1978.

Jerry worked at McDonald Steel for over thirty-one years as a Head Inspector and passed away one week prior to his last scheduled day of work there. He was presently the Financial Secretary of the United Steelworkers Local # 1307, as well as a member of the Teamsters.

Jerry was a member of Cornerstone Global Methodist Church in West Austintown. As a born-again Christian, he had a strong faith in God. Anyone who had contact with Jerry would soon know where he stood with God. He expressed his concern for those who have not accepted Jesus as their Savior. He shared his beliefs and Biblical interpretation concerning daily living, the end times, and what God wants for our nation. He also would share his political views using the Bible as his basis for who is the best candidate.

Jerry would hand write his views which God had given him to share, make multiple copies of these letters, and then share them with family members and friends. It was a behind-the-scenes ministry to witness to others about God.

He was very generous with his contributions to God through the church and ministries he supported. He also loved making crafty gifts to share with multiple people at Christmas time, making sure not to miss anyone on his extended list of recipients.

His generosity extended in death, as Jerry gave the gift of life as an organ and tissue donor.

Jerry leaves his sisters, Ellen (Greg) Waller of Youngstown, and Betty Arn of Austintown, his brothers Herb (Judy) of Westlake, OH, Tom (Linda) of Portersville, PA, John (Gay) and Harold (Cheri) of Austintown. He also leaves numerous nephews and nieces, great and great-great nephews, and nieces.

Besides his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Robert (Shari) Blackann, and his nephew, Jason Guittar.

Viewing and visitation with the family will be from 3:00 PM until the time of the memorial service at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Cremation & Funeral Service by Gary S. Silvat, Inc., 3896 Oakwood Ave. Austintown, OH 44515.
