With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James Closson, known as Jim, who passed away peacefully at his home. He grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and moved to Youngstown, Ohio in 2004. Jim spent most of his life working as an overhead crane operator in the steel industry.
An avid car enthusiast, a gifted handyman, and a lover of all things vintage, Jim was a man who believed in doing things the right way—no shortcuts, no "half-assing" as he would say. Whether it was fixing something around the house, rebuilding a vehicle, or tackling any project that came his way, Jim took pride in his work and always gave it his all.
His eye for detail, his appreciation for classic style was apparent in his taste in music and perfectly put together wardrobe , and his knack for making everything just a little bit better than it was before left an impression on everyone who knew him. He also had an uncanny ability to personalize everything, from cars to tools to even the simplest of objects—nothing was ever just “standard” in Jim’s world.
Though he had a tough exterior, Jim had a soft spot for animals, kids, the elderly, and all things underdog. Everyone who loved him knew they could rely on him when things got tough. Jim’s memory will live on through the laughter, stories, and many "Jiminisms" his family will remember.
Jim leaves behind his beloved spouse, Cindy Ray "Louie"; his children, Courteney and Arron Closson, and Matt and Rachel Hanis; his daughters-in-law, Theresa and Kathleen; and his grandchildren, Makayla, Hailee, and Matthew, and dog Sadie.
The family will hold a private service to honor Jim’s life.
Additionally, the family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has played a role in caring for him, and their utmost respect to those who serve as caregivers to others.
Rest easy, Jim. Your work here may be done, but your spirit will never be half-assed.
