On Friday, September 5, 2025, Jean Beatrice Koncheck, age 80, of Boardman, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly at her residence. She was born September 6, 1944, in Youngstown, OH, to Andrew and Mary (Paladenich) Susany.
Jean was raised in the Pyatt Street Market area of the South Side and graduated from South High School in 1962. Over the years, Jean held various positions at Idora Park, Cross Drug-Downtown, Penn Ohio Towel Supply, Commercial Shearing, and Bi-Lo Market on Midlothian Boulevard until its closure in 1984. She later worked as a cashier at Revco (CVS) on South Avenue and as a deli worker at Nemenz IGA.
In 1990, Jean pursued her passion for caregiving by enrolling in the Licensed Practical Nurse Program at Choffin Career Center. She served as an LPN at Southside Hospital until its closure in 1995 and continued her nursing career at St. Mary’s Alzheimer’s Clinic, CCA Private Prison, and Dandridge Burgundy Manor until retiring in 2010.
Jean had a deep love for music and was especially devoted to Elton John, whom she saw in concert over 65 times across 20 states east of the Mississippi River. She also enjoyed performances by Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond. Her hobbies included antiquing, collecting vintage Christmas items and piggy banks, and attending bingo with her father. She cherished time spent with her granddaughter and visiting relatives.
Jean was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in her youth, later attending St. Peter and Paul Church and Holy Family Parish.
She is survived by her son, Andrew of Boardman; granddaughter Kendal L. Calabria (Jeans' "sidekick" and "the apple of her eye"); sister Martha “Magdy” Iskander; brothers Mark (Roseann) Susany and James Susany; sister-in-law Marlene (Fritz) Mears; and former husband Gene Inskeep, and her mother and father, Andrew and Helen Koncheck.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Michael Koncheck, and daughter, Michelle L. Calabria.
A memorial luncheon will be held at a later date in September.
