On Thursday, November 14, 2024, John William Henry, age 81, of Canfield, OH passed into God’s care at Shepherd of the Valley in Boardman, Ohio. He was born in Youngstown on April 17, 1943, to Francis Byers and Lucille Nadine (Guillerey) Henry.
John is survived by his children, Jason (Lisa) Henry of Canfield, Ohio, Jeremy (Carina) Henry of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jody (Michael) Sergi of Houston, Texas; grandchildren, Grace Henry, Cade Henry both Canfield, Ohio, Kate Henry, Nick Henry, and Vivian Henry of Cincinnati, Ohio, Isabel Henry of El Paso, Texas, and Ryan Sergi of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy (Marty) Haraburda of Youngstown, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
John married his beloved wife, Joycelynn (Zuber) Henry on October 5, 1968, in Austintown, Ohio. They enjoyed thirty years of marriage before her death on March 5, 1999. Besides his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by his siblings, James Henry and Nadine Norton.
John graduated from Canfield High School in 1961 and served on the reunion committee, keeping everyone in communication over the years. He later attended Miami University (Ohio) and honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966, as a Military Policeman.
John was President of Datex, Inc. from 1974 to 2019, successfully growing and running the business until he retired in 2019, passing control onto his son, Jason. He was active in the Berlin Yacht Club for many years, where he served as the first two-time Commodore. John successfully raced sailboats with his brother-in-law as crew, followed by his sons. John was also a long-time Canfield United Methodist Church member, served on several church committees, and was the Financial Secretary for many years. He was known for his musical talents and showed them off as a member of the church choir, the Salem Jubilee Barbershop Chorus, and Harmony Bridge Barbershop Quartet. John was active in the Boy Scouts, serving as Cubmaster of Pack 25 when his sons were members of the Pack and served as a long-time Committee Chair of the Troop afterward.
John lived in the same house in Canfield for over forty-five years and loved caring for it and his yard. He also loved a good party, and a good Manhattan, and leaves many friends who loved him dearly.
Family to receive friends from 3:00 pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 4:00 pm on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Canfield United Methodist Church, 27 S. Broad St. Canfield, OH 44406 followed by a dinner with everyone invited.
