John Swinehart Obituary

John Lawrence Swinehart, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, August 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on September 29, 1953, in Youngstown, he was the son of the late Rev. Arthur and Helen  (Brown) Swinehart.

A proud graduate of Austintown Fitch High School, John continued his education at Youngstown State University, where he earned a BA in Business. His love for the outdoors began during his childhood as a Boy Scout, culminating in the achievement of the Eagle Scout Award. This passion for nature was shared with his son, John Reynolds, as they spent countless hours exploring Mill Creek Park together, a tradition they continued as recently as this past summer.

John's enthusiasm for sports was another cornerstone of his life. He rarely missed a game, supporting his son from little league through high school football. Together, they celebrated the triumphs and heartaches of Cleveland's sports teams and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Known for his strong work ethic, John dedicated 20 years as a supervisor at Easco Aluminum, boasting a perfect attendance record, before retiring from Kenilworth Steel after a decade of service. He took great pride in helping his sisters and extended family with outdoor tasks, always ready to lend a hand.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, John provided loving care for his elderly parents during their health struggles, showcasing his deep sense of family commitment.

He is survived by his son, John R. Swinehart of Columbus, OH; his twin sister, Jane Tallman of Canfield; his sisters, Mary Carolyn Deville (Jack) of Austintown and Elizabeth Clark of Salem; his brother, David Swinehart (Elzbieta) of Linden, NJ; and three nephews, Travis Clark, John Christian Tallman, and Matthew Swinehart.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Frank Clark and John Tallman.

Private services for immediate family will be held on Sunday, October 6th at Austintown Community Church.

John’s thoughtful and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
