It is with sad hearts that the family of Karen Louise Stambaugh, age 81, announces her passing on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, in Austintown, OH. She was born on October 21, 1943, in Salem, OH, to Paul Louden Kerr and Sophie (Adams) Kerr.
Karen was the beloved wife of Sam “Sunshine” Stambaugh and devoted mother to Kimberly Stambaugh and Connie Ortz. She was affectionately known as “Nanny” by her grandchildren, Micheal, Carly, Lindsey, and Sam, and was a proud great-grandmother to Tyson, Landon, Cayle, Carter, and Cameron. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Richard Kerr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Pat Paster and brother-in-law Mike Paster; her husband's parents Glen Stambaugh and Mae Stambaugh; and her son-in-law Larry Ortz.
Karen’s life centered around her family. She was ever-present at birthdays, holidays, sporting events, and family trips—always ready to support her loved ones without hesitation. Her generosity knew no bounds, and she never apologized for putting her family first.
Beyond her role as a matriarch, Karen was a steadfast partner to Sam in all his endeavors. Whether assisting with make-up backstage during Fitch Productions performances or helping at the Aut-Mori Grotto or wedding receptions, Karen gave freely of her time and energy without seeking recognition or reward. Her unwavering support and presence were invaluable.
Karen’s dedication to those she loved leaves a lasting legacy. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
“We will be together some day, Sweetheart. Wait for me. Love you.” – Sam
