On Tuesday, August 25, 2025, Kenneth John Gavaghan, age 81, passed away at Briarfield at Ashley Circle, Austintown, OH. He was born August 7, 1944, in Eastlake, OH, to James and Jennie (Boldan) Gavaghan.
Kenneth spent most of his life in the Cleveland area before moving to Boardman in 2014 to live with his son. A lifelong enthusiast of music and technology, he was known for his love of stereos—his favorite tunes often filled the entire block. He especially enjoyed listening to Tom Jones, Dean Martin, Bill Black, and any music featuring an electric organ. In later years, he shared this passion with his son Steve, exploring everything from oldies and funk to Robert Palmer and newer artists.
Kenneth had a deep appreciation for video games, a hobby he maintained from his twenties into his late seventies. He also had a fondness for animals and spent much of his life with dogs. He warmly welcomed and spoiled the pets that belonged to his son and daughter-in-law.
In retirement, Kenneth found joy in simple pleasures—sitting on the porch, watching the news and game shows like Jeopardy with Steve. He loved recording television programs, a habit that began with prank calls on reel-to-reel tapes and continued through decades of VHS recordings. Comedy shows, concerts, and daytime television were among his favorites.
Kenneth will be remembered for his joyful spirit and easygoing nature. He brought laughter and warmth to those around him.
He is survived by his son, Steve (Kristi) Gavaghan of Hanoverton, Ohio; sister, Patricia Owens of Tennessee; sister-in-law, Debbie Gavaghan; his beloved cat and companion, Forest as well as, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & great nephews.
Besides his parents, Kenneth was also preceded in death by his brother, James E. Gavaghan Jr.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
