Mark Douglas Backhaus

Mark D Backhaus, age 66, of Boardman, OH, formerly of Muskego, WI, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026, at St Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown, OH. He was born on July 9, 1959, in Milwaukee, WI to Hilbert ‘Buck’ and Marjorie (Rae) Backhaus.

Mark loved all things Harley Davidson, he never shied away from lending a hand and was a talented machinist and welder. He was a transplant to Ohio almost fifteen years ago and was excited to have his own home after living in apartments for more than four decades. 

He is survived by his children, Joeleen (Danny) Meyer, Deanna (Colt) McCaffery; and his grandchildren, Allyana Oliver, Amelia and Lucy Meyer. 

Mark is also survived by his siblings: David Backhaus, Margo (Mark) Bennett, Margaret (Dave) Leitinger, Eddie Lyon and David Lyon; and his stepmother, Phyllis Backhaus; many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Mark was also preceded in death by his loving fiancée, Samantha Coulter. 

Mark will be remembered for his giving heart, his stubbornness, and his love for his family and friends. Mark was able to give to others in his last moments as an organ donor. His laughter and presence will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
