Marta Castillo, 81, passed away on September 14, 2026, in Youngstown, Ohio, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on November 12, 1944, in Cayey, Puerto Rico, to Benigno De Jesus and Maria Luisa Vázquez.
Marta was a woman who loved without limits. Her heart was always open, and she offered kindness, compassion, and support to anyone who needed it. Friendly, social, and deeply caring, she touched countless lives with her warmth and generosity. She worked for many years as a cobbler, a trade she carried out with dedication, skill, and an unwavering work ethic. After a lifetime of hard work, she retired, leaving behind a legacy of perseverance and strength.
She found joy in nature, the arts, and the beauty of everyday life. Marta had a curious and adventurous mind, often drawn to esoteric subjects and the mysteries of the world. Even in difficult moments, she carried a positive spirit and always found something to appreciate. Her kindness, resilience, curiosity, and unconditional love remain gifts she leaves to her family and to everyone whose life she touched.
Marta married the love of her life, Carlos H. Castillo, on September 1, 1974. They shared many years of devotion and partnership until his passing. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Leticia De Jesus and Nilda De Jesus.
She is survived by her children Carlos A. Castillo and his wife, Roslyn Castillo of Youngstown, Luz Castillo of Youngstown, Karla Castillo and her husband Rudy Valle of Winter Garden, FL.
Her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy, include Rebecca Campbell, Melvin Osorto, Kevin Osorto, Sebastián Castillo, Adrian Castillo, all of Youngstown, and Kariela Olivo and Rodolfo Valle, both of Winter Garden, FL.
She is also survived by her sister, Maria Flores of Long Island, New York.
Marta enjoyed nature, music, art, reading, meaningful conversations, and spending time with her family. She had a special gift for making people feel seen, valued, and loved. Though her physical presence is gone, the love she gave so freely will continue to live through her family, and through all whose lives she touched.
The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time, and will honor her privately in accordance with her wishes.
