Mary Jamison Obituary

On Wednesday, June 26, 2024, Mary P. (Altiere) Jamison, age 105, of Austintown, OH passed away peacefully. She was born in Youngstown on February 5, 1919, to Nicholas and Nancy (Nausant) Altiere.

Mary is survived by daughter Carol (Ed) Zelonish; grandchildren, Eddie (Sharon) Zelonish, Lori (Roger) Cooper, Jason (Holly) Zelonish, Susan (Dale) Hopkins, David K. (Yasemin) Jamison Jr; great-grandchildren, Eli, Jamison, Isaac, Jace, Cole, Daniel, Ryan, David, Leyla and daughter-in-law, Dr. Patricia Jamison.

Besides her parents, Mary was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carroll Nelson Jamison in 1975; loving son, David Jamison in 2018; siblings, James (Connie)  Altiere, Tony (Dodi) Altiere, Joe (Amelia) Altiere, Dominic (Rose) Altiere, Fred (Molly) Altiere, Malene (Joseph) Pehm, Helen (James) Viglione, and Rose (Bengie) Bengala.

Mary was a strong beautiful woman, she not only was a mother, grand and great-grandmother, she held her family together after the death of her husband, Carroll in 1975. She worked outside the home as a Deli Manager with Value King until her retirement in 1985, and she was Recording Secretary for the United Food & Commercial Workers Local 200 and 880 and stayed fit and healthy doing daily chores and aerobics for over forty years, which was well into her nineties. Mary drove until the age of ninety-eight when she made her home with her daughter, Carol and son-in-law, Ed.

While still independent Mary so enjoyed eating a wide array of homemade breakfasts each morning made and served by her son-in-law, Ed.

Throughout her life, Mary was an avid cook and baker. Her Italian specialties were enjoyed by everyone on Easter and Christmas. For many years, Mary spent Mother’s Day week in Emerald Island, NC with her sister, Rose, and her family. By the end of the week, Mary had the deepest and most exotic tan of anyone in the family.

Mary’s entire family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Facemyer, as well as Dianne and Torri from Buckeye Hospice for their loving and compassionate care.

A private family viewing was held at Cremation & Funeral Service by Gary S Silvat, Inc. Mary was laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery beside her husband, Carroll, after a graveside service.
