Nadine Ann (Sakoman) Wiand

On Monday evening, October 28, 2024, Nadine Ann Wiand, age 68, of Austintown, OH passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Youngstown on July 13, 1956 to Steven M. and Agnes Marie (Celovski) Sakoman.

Born with a compassionate heart, Nadine dedicated her life to caring for others. In 1974, after graduating from Liberty High School, she pursued a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from Bowling Green State University. Nadine then returned to the area and served as an RN in the pediatric unit at St. Elizabeth's Hospital; later she brought her warmth and expertise to students as the school nurse at Fairhaven School in Trumbull County. She retired in 2014.

Beyond her professional life, she was deeply cherished by her family and friends. Known for her creativity, Nadine filled her home and the lives of those around her with handmade crafts (primitives) and baked goods, delighting everyone with her famous pumpkin bread and chocolate chip cookies. She was a perfectionist with a firm resolve to repurpose and redesign “things” that had lost their luster and then share her finished projects with those she loved.  Her love and kindness will be remembered and treasured by all who knew her.

Nadine was blessed with two longtime friends, Nancy Pakulniewicz and Diane Mastro-Nard, who were like sisters to her. Their daily check-ins, care and support were immensely helpful during her 14- year battle with Parkinson's Disease. Nancy especially was always there to accompany her to every doctor's appointment and every surgical procedure which meant so much to Nadine and her family.  In addition, Nadine's cousins Paula Fyda, Fran Melewski and Linda Mazias showed overwhelming generosity and kindness by delivering meals to her regularly and making sure that she always felt cared for.
Nadine is survived by her husband, Charles J. Wiand, of Austintown; sons, Tom (Lora) Lyden of Boardman, Sean Lyden of Austintown; her granddaughter Lauren whom she adored; stepchildren, Michael (Laura) Wiand of Austintown, Laura (fiancé, Chris Tilley) Wiand of VA;  step grandchildren Shelby Wiand, Emily Wiand, Hannah Wiand, Christian (Angela) Wiand, all of Austintown, William Wiand of VA; great-granddaughter, Daisy Wiand; brothers Steven (Michelle) Sakoman of OR, Kenneth Sakoman of MI, sister-in-law, Barbara (Carl) Christianson of NE, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
 A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, 4490 Norquest Boulevard, Austintown, OH 44515. The family will be present to receive friends ONE HOUR prior to the mass.
