Norman Castle Sam

On Tuesday, April 15, 2025, Norman Castle Sam, age 78, of Austintown OH, passed away. He was born March 23, 1947 in Dunkirk NY, to Castle and Josephine (Lodico) Sam.

He was the devoted husband of nearly 53 years to Donna Zagorski, a milestone he held with great pride.

Norman began his career at Roblin Steel in the late 1960s and went on to hold management roles in various steel mills. Later, he transitioned into refractory sales and service before retiring from North American Refractories in 2012.

A proud family man and loyal friend, Norman had a lifelong passion for building racecars and drag racing. He enjoyed riding his Harley and was an active member of ABATE of Ohio and Warren HOG. In recent years, he discovered a love for slot machines and quilting. Quilting became a hobby he enthusiastically shared with anyone who would listen. Known for his ability to fix just about anything, Norman’s hands were always busy creating or repairing something meaningful.

Norman was the cherished father of Mark Norman Sam of Dunkirk, New York; Matthew Norman Sam of North Lima, Ohio; Elizabeth Crudden of West Lafayette, Indiana; and identical triplet daughters Amanda Sam of Austintown and Cara (Quentin) Brown of Midland, Michigan and Stacy Burns.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Castle Sam and Josephine (LoDico) Sam; daughter, Stacy Burns; sister Patricia Laemmerhirt; and brothers Peter Sam and Ronnie Sam.

He is also survived by his brother Albert (Mariann) Sam of Ponce Inlet, Florida.

A memorial service will take place from 3:00-6:00pm on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Cremation & Funeral Service by Gary S. Silvat, Inc., 3896 Oakwood Avenue, Austintown  OH  44515.
