On Friday, August 14, 2026, Richard Garr, age 73, of Girard, OH, passed away peacefully at home with his daughter by his side. He was born on May 17, 1953, in Youngstown, OH, to William Henry and Virginia Francis (Duggar) Garr.
Richard built his working life through hands-on trades, including painting, roofing, and maintenance. His career reflected practical skill and steady work across roles that kept him closely connected to the everyday needs of others and the communities where he lived and worked.
Outside of work, Richard had a range of interests that remained a recognizable part of his life. He enjoyed fishing and working on swimming pools, pursuits that reflected his familiarity with outdoor activity and practical projects alike. He also spent time watching MASH and Gunsmoke, programs that were among the interests remembered by those who knew him.
Richard is remembered by his daughter, Alexa Garr, his grandchildren, Gregory, Nala, and Braielyn, and numerous friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and companion, Brenda S. Garr.
His life story is marked by his roots in Youngstown, his years of work in skilled labor, and the personal interests that accompanied him over time. In remembering Richard Garr, those details stand as a clear record of the life he lived and the people who remember him.
