Richard L. "Dickie" Irwin Jr.

Richard L “Dickie” Irwin Jr., age 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, August 6, 2026.  Richard was born in Youngstown, Ohio on January 29, 1958, son of late Richard Sr. and Judith (Hull) Irwin.  He resided in Hubbard, Ohio for the past twenty years where he built a life filled with cherished memories. 

Richard was a proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School where he was a standout baseball player.  He dedicated thirty-two years of his life to Northside Hospital, where he was incredibly devoted to his work as a radiology file clerk and receptionist, taking great pride in what he did. He was known for his remarkable work ethic and dedication, never missing a day of work.  His commitment to his work was a true reflection of the kind of person he was – dependable, hardworking and dedicated to everything he put his heart into. 

Richard lived a simple life with deep devotion to his family, never missing a chance to cheer loudly for his children and grandchildren at every one of their sporting events or school functions. He proudly coached many of his children’s sports teams, encouraging not only their skills but their confidence as well. He was a genuine giver, never expecting or wanting anything in return.  He never met a stranger and often made friends everywhere he went by simply striking up a conversation, most recently at the West Middlesex Diner or while playing his favorite games at local internet cafes.

Richard had a way of bringing laughter and joy wherever he went.  He was a true jokester, always ready with a joke, a teasing comment, or a smile.  He had an impressive ability to know the words to just about every song, whether the lyrics were quite right or not.  He enjoyed scratching lottery tickets and proudly cheering on his favorite Ohio sports teams.  But what meant the most to Richard was the people in his life.  He loved his family and friends deeply and wholeheartedly.  Once you became Richard’s friend, you weren’t just a friend – you were family.  His love and loyalty were forever, and those lucky enough to know him will carry his laughter, kindness and love in their hearts for years to come.

Richard is survived by his dear wife, Sofia Irwin and his five children, Richard Irwin III, Derick Irwin, Monique (Jim) Tabak, Cory Irwin, and Amanda (Ryan) Angelo. He was lovingly known as “Papa Rich” by his seven grandchildren, Audelina, Coen, Gianna, Callie, Vanessa, Eloise, and Amelia.  He leaves to cherish his memory his aunts, uncles, cousins, many extended family members and friends, especially Iris Irwin, and his beloved dog, Cash, who loved him dearly.

Family and friends are invited to visit and pay tribute to Richard on Saturday, August 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a brief prayer service to follow, at Cremation & Funeral Services by Gary Silvat, Inc., 3896 Oakwood Ave., Austintown, OH 44515. A memorial luncheon will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Banquet Hall, 4490 Norquest Blvd., Austintown, OH 44515.
