Robert Thomas Ireland, born on December 31, 1934, in Indiana, Pennsylvania, to Alex and Violet (Olsen) Ireland. He passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026, in Cortland, Ohio. At the age of 91, Robert leaves behind a legacy of dedication to his family and community.
Robert was the beloved husband of the late Arlene (Saltzman) Ireland. Together they shared an extraordinary 71 years of marriage, building a life filled with love and cherished memories. He was a devoted father to his daughter Shirley Tingler and son Larry Ireland (Tangi Day). His pride extended to his grandchildren Nicholas Ireland (Tonya), Heather Ireland (Mike), Jennifer Kay (Jon), and Justin Kay (Shalyn), as well as his great-grandchildren Jason, Matthew, Rowen, and Allana.
Robert is also survived by his brothers James Ireland (Bea), William Ireland (Peg), and Richard Ireland (Judy); his sister-in-law Lois Shaffer; and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Jake and Harriette Ireland; sister, Susy Ireland; and brother-in-law, Donald Spencer.
A dedicated member of the Fowler Volunteer Fire Department for an impressive 32 years, Robert also served as Treasurer during his tenure. His commitment to serving others exemplified his selflessness and strong sense of community.
May Robert’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him. His contributions to both family and community will be remembered with gratitude and respect.
A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Fowler United Methodist Church, 3426 Youngstown-Kingsville Road, Cortland, OH, 44410. Family to receive friends at 11:00 am with services to begin at 12:00 pm.
