Ronald James Horning

Ronald James Horning, born on June 25, 1953, and peacefully departed on Sunday, July 5, 2026, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, US Air Force Veteran and respected automotive enthusiast whose passion for classic cars defined much of his life. Ron dedicated countless hours to the restoration and preservation of vehicles. His admiration for the 1969 Shelby Cobra was well known, reflecting his appreciation for craftsmanship, performance, and timeless automotive design.

Ron possessed an exceptional mechanical talent, illustrated by his career choice as a project manager in the steel industry, approaching every project with precision, patience and pride. His garage became a place of both work and fellowship, where he generously shared his knowledge, offered guidance, and formed lasting connections with fellow car enthusiasts. His presence at local car shows and gatherings was marked by professionalism, enthusiasm, and a genuine respect for the automotive community.

Beyond his mechanical skill, Ron will be remembered for his steady character, warm demeanor, and the kindness he extended to all who knew him. His legacy endures in the memories he created, the lessons he imparted, and the many engines he brought back to life.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Donna Gayle Horning; brother, Jeff Horning (Janet); sister, Sherri (Daryl) Burton; children, Shawn (Lisa Hall) Horning, Andrea (Ernie) DuPont, Ryan (Margaux) Horning, Jessica (Steven) Kline, Chris (Courtnie) Horning, and a host of grand and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Margie Horning; siblings, Sue (widower Sam) Boles and John Horning (surviving Margaret Zelinsky). He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of sharing time with him beside an open hood.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11 am at Mercy Ministries, 3555 Tod Ave NW, Warren, OH 44485. There will be no calling hours.
