Ross Lucarell Obituary

On Monday, May 5, 2025, Ross Dennis Lucarell, age 72,  of Austintown, OH, passed away peacefully at Hospice House with his family by his side, after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. He was born  August 20, 1952, in Youngstown, OH, to Dominic and Georgean (Rossi) Lucarell.

A graduate of Austintown High School, class of 1970, Ross went on to earn a degree in electronics from  A.T.E.S  in Niles, OH.  He began his career at Youngstown Sheet and Tube, where he worked for 11 years—nine of those as a union representative. Ross later found his true calling with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as property manager at Camp Stambaugh in Canfield for 31 years. Affectionately known as “Ranger Ross,” he also oversaw Camp Chickagamee and Camp Stigwandish, touching the lives of thousands through his leadership and care.

Ross was an active scout leader for Troop 84 and coached both junior and travel soccer teams in Austintown. He enjoyed participating in pool, bowling, and golf leagues throughout his life.

A proud Freemason, Ross received a gold pin in 2013 recognizing 25 years of service with Argus Lodge in Canfield. He was also a proud and dedicated member of the Youngstown Shrine Club for 27 years. His dedication to the principles of freemasonry and his commitment to serving others, especially through his involvement with the Shriners' children's hospitals, were a source of pride for his family and the entire masonic fraternity.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life was marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Ross had a beautiful respect for nature and was the ultimate outdoorsman.  He loved to go fishing and camping with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren, especially at Lake Pymatuming.

Ross met the love of his life, Janice Westover in 1969 and they were married on August 26th, 1972. They shared 52  wonderful years of marriage and were together for 56 years. He loved to spend time with his family as they were his pride and joy. He had such a warm and jovial personality, something anyone who met him can attest to, even the last 5 years of his cancer battle he was a favorite patient of anyone who had the pleasure of taking care of him.

He is survived by his beloved wife Janice Lucarell of Austintown, Ohio; his children, son Ross David Lucarell of Anniston, AL, son Nicholas Lucarell of Youngstown, OH, daughter Danielle (J.R.) Jackson of Canfield, OH and daughter Kristina (Landon) Lucarell of Columbiana, OH; grandchildren, Jarrod, Chace, Amaya and Bryce Jackson, Lizzie Lucarell; brothers, Dominic (Geri) Lucarell of Rootstown, OH and Christopher (Kim) Lucarell of Poland, OH, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the healthcare providers and staff at Mercy Health and Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will take place from 11:00 am-2:00 pm on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at the Argus Lodge, 5050 Shields Road, Canfield, OH 44406.
