On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Samuel James Jones, age 75, of Austintown, OH, passed away at his residence. He was born February 19, 1949, in Beaumont, TX to Virgil and Emma (Barrett) Jones.
He was an over-the-road/cross-country owner-operator truck driver all his adult life. Samuel loved the outdoors and animals, especially feeding “Jake” and Jake’s crow family.
Samuel is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara (Walker) Jones; children, Laura (Scott) Chase, Samuel James (Misty) Jones, Jr., Michael Jones, Tammy Smith, Samuel James Jones III, Michelle Jones; step-children, Deb (Mark) Hull, Dion J. Matthews; grandchildren, Rodney Smith, Dolton Smith, Brittany Smith, Jessica Smith, Joshua Smith, Hailie Degeyter, Bryan Degeyter, Lance Degeyter, Chloee Degeyter, Colton Jones, Kylie Jones, Kyra Jones, David Basham, Austin Johnson, Jessie James Jones, David Clark, and Dakota Wallace, all of Texas; step-grandchildren, Brandon (Natalie) Wine, Lauren Wine (Joe) DeAttoma, Robert J. (Leah) Matthews, Dion L. (Ashley) Matthews, Damien Group (Matthews), Devin Matthews, Isaac Matthews, Isaiah (Kaylyn) Matthews, Elijah Matthews, Cayden Matthews, Dionte Matthews, Angeleese Lafaye; his sister, Mary (Kenneth) Donahey and last but not least is special nephew, Wayne West (Jones) and Gloria King, who both came from Texas to help care for him in his final days.
Besides his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his sisters, Eunice Bland, and Evelyn West; daughter, Stephany Jones; and step-son, Robert L Matthews Jr.
There will be a private family service.
