Susan Marie Sullivan

On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Susan Marie Sullivan, age 67, of Canfield, OH, passed away peacefully at home with her loving husband by her side. She was born December 20, 1958, in Youngstown, OH, to John and Patricia (Bowman) Sullivan. She was a proud graduate of Ursuline High School, Class of 1977.

Susan earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Youngstown State University and later completed a Master’s degree in Nursing Informatics from Kent State University. She dedicated her life to caring for others through her work as a registered nurse, serving patients at Northside Hospital, Southside Hospital, and the Cleveland Clinic. Her compassion, professionalism, and quiet strength defined her both personally and professionally.

Outside of her career, Susan found great joy in gardening, landscaping, and being outdoors. She loved working with her hands and spending time in nature, where she found peace and comfort.

Susan shared 31 loving years with her husband, Terry Basista, who remained devotedly by her side until the very end.

Susan is survived by her husband, Terry Basista; his children, Brian (Brandie) Basista of Bradenton, FL, and Julie (Justin) Schmidt, along with their sons, Gibson and Tanner, of Brandon, MS;  by her mother, Patricia Sullivan; brothers, Stephen (Angela) Sullivan and John P.  (Bridget) Sullivan, Jr.; sister Laura (Jim) Cestary; nephews, Thomas Sullivan,  Stephen (Jennifer) Sullivan, Alexander Sullivan, and Sean (Morgan) Sullivan), along with several great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, John P. Sullivan, Sr.

Susan will be remembered for her quiet kindness, her love of the outdoors, and her lifelong dedication to caring for others. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

A private memorial will take place.
