William Cox Obituary

On Tuesday, January 20, 2026, William W. Cox, age 84, passed away peacefully at home in Poland, OH, with his wife, Carol, by his side. He was born July 30, 1941, in Springfield, IL, the first son of William Michael and Rose (Smargiassi) Cox. Bill's family moved to Cleveland when he and his brother, Michael, were teenagers. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1959 and is a veteran of the US Navy.

In 1979, Bill met Carol, and they were married on August 8, 1987, sharing a loving and grateful relationship for 47 years.

Bill's work in Cleveland brought him to the tri-county area, where he dedicated over 50 years of his life working at Mau Sherwood Supply, starting in the warehouse and advancing to being their top salesman.

He enjoyed bowling in a league with friends and customers, and loved/hated golfing, participating in golf leagues with friends and customers, and with an occasional golf outing with family.

A generous supporter of The Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley and the Salvation Army of Mahoning County, he will be remembered for his kindness, dedication, and the joy he brought to those around him.

William is survived by his wife Carol Hall-Cox; sons, Brian (Sue) Cox and Timothy Cox of Warren, OH, Kevin of Pittsburgh, PA, Daniel Cox of Youngstown OH, and Eric Hall of Boardman, OH; five grandchildren, Mathew (Lindsey) Kovarik, Amanda (Zach) Sheets, Brendan Cox, and Brenden and Brianna Hall; two great-grandchildren, Brayden and Easton Kovarik, and a sister-in-law, Fran Hall; along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother Michael Cox, four brothers-in-law, Lawrence, Walter, Robert Hall, and Harold Kerestes; three sisters-in-law, Marilyn Cox, Irene Halverstadt, and Eileen Kerestes.

William leaves behind cherished memories with his family and friends.

Per Bill's wishes, there will not be any services.
